As I See It

Are you ready for tomorrow’s election?

It hasn’t gotten the headlines of a presidential election, but another important election is upon us. Voters in Wisconsin will head to the polls tomorrow. Some of them anyway. Voter turnout in the April election is typically underwhelming. But it is entirely possible that getting voters to the polls tomorrow is even more important. That’s because of the smaller sample size. A lower turnout means each single vote has more impact on the outcome of the election than in a presidential contest. And tomorrow’s race for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court probably has more direct bearing on our individual lives. There are two candidates running in what is officially a non-partisan race, but one is favored by liberals and one is favored by conservatives. The stakes are high. The power of the court will tilt in one political direction based on the outcome of the race. Somebody thinks its important. Outside spending in the race has topped $3 million. That can’t be good for our democracy. But what is good for our democracy is to participate in the elections. So don’t forget, tomorrow is election day. Do you know who you will vote for yet?
