Another family has a new home in La Crosse thanks to a collaborative effort.

Couleecap, the city and other organizations celebrated Rose Reinert and her two sons, as they received the key to their home in the 400 block of Mississippi Street on Friday afternoon.

Ashley Lacenski of Couleecap said it’s been a long revitalization project, following a shooting in the area in 2015

“Since that time, things have fallen into place, and we have been able to acquire several lots to make the neighborhood more presentable,” Lacenski said.

She added that when they took over the area, the houses were blighted and didn’t present a positive image of the community

“It was in really rough shape,” Larcenski says. “I managed the vacant properties that we purchased for a very long time. The houses we have here now are a much bigger asset to the neighborhood, and they’re beautiful.”

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat spoke at the event, adding that it’s not all about just redoing blighted houses.

“It’s the lighting projects and the pedestrian improvements with our neighborhood resource officers. It’s the investment into Poage Park,” Kabat said.

Reinert lived on the street growing up. She stated she loved the area and wanted to raise her family there.

I also act as the voice of local sports, doing play by play of high school and college football and basketball. When not working I enjoy golfing.
