In 1973, students at UW-L were offered an eight-day Easter break bus trip to Florida. For just $120, the vacation included deep-sea fishing, and a $10 ticket to Disney World.
The UW-L theater department was running spring trips to see Broadway shows in New York. The plays being performed in New York in early ’73 included ‘A Little Night Music,’ ‘Pippin,’ ‘That Championship Season,’ and a new Neil Simon comedy, ‘The Sunshine Boys.’
Washington newspaper columnist Jack Anderson came to La Crosse, telling a UW-L audience that the 1972 presidential campaign was the most corrupt in American history. The Watergate scandal which would bring down President Nixon broke during that campaign. During his La Crosse visit, Anderson compared how Nixon and Lyndon Johnson treated reporters. Anderson said LBJ was a ‘master of seducing’ the media, while Nixon was often hostile and belligerent to reporters…in 1973, yesterday in La Crosse.
