Fire division chief preparing to hire attorney for porn case

A La Crosse fire division chief says he’s close to hiring an attorney to defend him in a child pornography case.

Francis Devine has asked Judge Scott Horne to give him 30 more days to get funding to hire La Crosse attorney Keith Belzer.

Devine’s next hearing has been scheduled for May 8th.

Last month, Devine was charged with possessing a child porn image on a home computer, after state investigators received a tip from an anti-porn organization.

He was placed on administrative leave by the La Crosse Fire Department.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
