After retirement of asst. chief, Onalaska police chief asks to return to being assistant
Another management change in the Onalaska Police Department, which has already lost its assistant chief this month through retirement.
This time, Police Chief Troy Miller is being allowed by the police and fire commission to return to his previous post as assistant chief, reportedly to be able to spend more time with his family.
Earlier in April, former Assistant Chief Jeffery Cavender announced his retirement a week, after admitting to drinking with Onalaska Fire Chief Billy Hayes.
The fire chief was arrested for drunk-driving shortly after the drinking incident. He tried to get out of the charge by mentioning he was with the fire department.
That led to a five-day, unpaid suspension for Hayes, which was proposed in an agreement by the city released last week.
