The Onalaska School District has officially chosen the replacement to longtime superintendent Fran Finco.

Todd Antony will replace Finco, who was with the district for 27 years, including the past eight as superintendent.

Antony was previously a principal at Irving Pertzsch Elementary School from 2011-2018, before working as the director of elementary education for the La Crosse School District.

School board president Ann Garrity said the decision wasn’t made lightly.

“We went through a very extensive process,” Garrity said. “We recognize the importance of this position, not just with our school district but in our community. We got quite a few applicants.”

The applicants were narrowed down to six and then three, with Garrity saying Antony shined each time.

Antony expressed his gratitude to the board Monday night, after he was unanimously confirmed.

Finco announced his impending retirement earlier this year.

Antony’s first official day will be July 1.
