Thefts and vehicle entries rising in La Crosse with warmer weather

The temperatures are rising and, with that, comes an increase in certain types of criminal activity in La Crosse.

With people working more around the house, the police department says it is seeing more garage and vehicle entries.

La Crosse Sergeant Tom Walsh said the crimes are about easy access.

“We want to take away opportunities from criminals trying to make us into victims,” Walsh said. “If you’re in the backyard working, leave your front door locked, and certainly at night, lighting.”

If you can’t install security systems, those around you have a heightened responsibility.

“If you see something, don’t be hesitant to call,” Walsh said. “The more we get to know our neighbors, the more likely it is they’ll call when they see something suspicious.”

Walsh added that these types of crimes are often times not about the items stolen, but simply something that can be sold for cash.
