A Viroqua driver charged with causing a deadly 2017 highway crash, while reportedly under the influence of drugs, will avoid a trial and reach a plea agreement instead.

Corey Bolstad’s homicide trial in La Crosse County court had been scheduled for next week but he now has a June 27 plea hearing, when he also could be sentenced.

Police say Bolstad killed 65-year-old Rebecca Berndt of Onalaska two years ago when his commercial pumping truck crashed into Berndt’s Ford Explorer and then kept going until it ran into a house.

Bolstad allegedly had taken meth and heroin before driving.
