Online liquor sales in La Crosse could be put off for another month

La Crosse’s city hall is back to debating whether online liquor sales should be allowed in the community.

Discussions on limiting when alcohol can be purchased on the internet and picked up later could be put off until the July council meetings.

Police Chief Ron Tischer said the proposed rules are aimed partly at keeping underage drinkers from obtaining booze.

The ordinance would require stores to check the ID of everybody in a car when a liquor order is picked up.

A Walmart manager in La Crosse said that kind of rule could prevent the store from selling any alcohol.

The city council administration committee voted this week to study the issue for another month before voting on the regulations.

A ban on internet alcohol sales in La Crosse was narrowly voted down by the council in April.
