Dr. Andy Morgan, founder of the Penguin Project, visits the Weber Center in La Crosse

The La Crosse Community Theatre’s first venture into a nationwide program to help children with special needs is getting support from the man who started that program.

Dr. Andy Morgan came to the theatre Tuesday to promote the Penguin Project, which will put on a youth version of the musical, Annie, this October.

Morgan is a physician, who specializes in treating children with disabilities. He thought getting the children involved with theater might help them.

He says the children with special needs meet new friends by doing the plays, and there’s “no negativity” involved in the shows.

Morgan will be back in La Crosse later this month to help the Annie cast begin the rehearsal process.
