Habitat’s ReNew program getting more requests for help than anticipated
More volunteers are needed because more projects are needed for
La Crosse Area Habitat for Humanity is extending its ReNew program to the last week of June.
It is taking care of two neighborhoods this year — the Lower Northside Depot Neighborhood and the Logan Northside Neighborhood in La Crosse.
Naturally, more projects are being sent in on request according to executive director Kahya Fox.
“We’re working with two neighborhoods and we had an amazing outpouring from the community, individuals looking for assistance,” Fox said.
The people being helped are often elderly or disabled, and take pride in the image of their house but can’t physically do the work anymore.
“It’s not that they don’t want to do it,” Fox said. “We want to give them that pride back and ease that frustration.”
