A Whitehall man, who was hit in the head by a deer going through the windshield of his truck, is slowly recovering.

Messages on social media say 37-year-old Tony McCray has come out of a coma and is responding to some commands.

McCray’s semi was struck by a deer that was thrown into the air after being hit by a driver in the opposite lane of Highway 37 in Buffalo County, near Alma.

No one was injured in the other vehicle.

The semi went into a marsh in the Saturday crash, and the highway was partially shut down for four hours.

McCray reportedly was returning home from a tractor pull when the accident occurred.
