All signs point to the City of La Crosse having to soon look for a new police chief, but there’s been no word from the mayor or Ron Tischer.

An announcement out of Payson, Arizona on Friday, said Tischer accepted an offer to be that community’s police chief.

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat stated he hasn’t received a resignation letter from Tischer, who has led the department since 2012. He previously worked for agencies in Waukesha and River Hills.

The last chief in La Crosse was Ed Kondracki, who served from 1993-2012.

Payson’s current chief is retiring on July 26. Tischer would start the following Monday.

Fifty three applications were received for the job.
