Mississippi rising again after rain storms in region
After enduring weeks of high water along the Mississippi River, people in La Crosse are being warned to expect it to rise again in the next week.
Heavy rains from storms since Thursday is blamed for the latest increase in water levels.
The weather service office on Grandad Bluff said the river was holding steady at eight feet until Thursday afternoon.
As of noon Saturday, the river was above 8.5 feet, and a crest of 9.4 feet at La Crosse could happen early Tuesday.
The Mississippi remained above the 10-foot, no-wake level in La Crosse for 90 consecutive days, beginning in March, setting a new local record for the longest high-water streak.
Several locations in Dodge and Olmsted counties in southern Minnesota recorded at least seven inches of rain from the late-week storms.
