La Crosse police officers broke up a fight on the ground between two women early Friday morning downtown.

One of the women has been a familiar figure in the local courts recently.

The district attorney’s office is charging 21-year-old Monica Thompson with disorderly conduct and bail jumping, for allegedly starting the fight outside Legends Bar on Pearl Street.

Police say they saw Monica throw the other woman to the ground and attempt to hit her.

Thompson said her aunt had been struck by the second woman, who also is accused of disorderly conduct.

Thompson is still facing charges in a case from last fall, for allegedly hitting and spitting on police that came to her home.
