Departing police chief hopes successor can be found in La Crosse
As La Crosse Police Chief Ron Tischer prepares to step down next week, the search is on to replace him.
After seven years of leading the department, Tischer will go to Payson, Arizona, to become that city’s chief.
Tischer told WIZM that he has confidence in the La Crosse police and fire commission to find his successor, preferably already on the local police force.
“I would hope that they take a very, very serious look at our internal candidates,” Tischer said, “because I think when the process is complete, whether you do a nationwide search or not, I think and I hope they find that the perfect candidate was right here in La Crosse.”
Tischer, who became chief here just before the 2012 Oktoberfest, added that he and his wife have made many lifelong friends during their time in La Crosse.
