The city of La Crosse is dropping a 50-year-old plan to build a new north-side street off Nakomis Avenue.

Two property owners will be allowed to reclaim land that had been set aside for a proposed street called Decorah Place, which would have connected Nakomis to a small island in the Black River.

The street had been proposed around the time of the 1965 flood.

The land for Decorah Place was annexed to the city of La Crosse eight years ago, but federal water rules reportedly prevent the street from ever being built.
