La Crosse Police officer involved in shooting ID’d

The La Crosse police officer involved in a shooting over the weekend has been identified.

Dustin Darling, an officer with 6 years experience with the department responded to a domestic disturbance on 9th Street South and made contact with Alan Kruk, who subsequently opened fire on Darling.

Darling was shot in the chest but it was stopped with a protective vest, and Kruk was shot numerous times by return fire.

He remains in the hospital.

The Wisconsin DCI say that law enforcement are fully cooperating.

Prior to his time in the department, Darling was in the Army National Guard, and has continued serving since being hired.
