Kind hopes for action on trade and background checks during fall session

Congress returns to Washington this week for its fall session, with economic measures high on the action list. 

La Crosse Democrat Ron Kind says that, even though there are good economic signs, such as low unemployment, issues such as trade wars with other nations, and the bad farm economy, are problems.

Kind announced last week that he’s introducing bills to give Congress more influence on American trade with other countries.  

In the wake of new shootings around America this summer, Kind points out that the House already has passed a bill allowing certain background checks of people wanting to buy weapons. 

Democrat Kind says the Senate now needs to act, and he says people don’t want “violent felons” to get certain types of guns.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
