A UW-La Crosse art professor who is the subject of a sexual misconduct allegation has now been placed on leave.

Department Chairman Joel Elgin is accused of inappropriate conduct in an incident last year.

UWL student Caycee Bean reported to the university that Elgin led her into a small room, locked the door, and started to lift up her shirt.

But she says the university didn’t respond to her allegations until she pressed them at the start of this school year, and the university’s only discipline was to tell the professor not to contact the student.

Bean posted her story on Facebook last week, it went viral, and the university reopened the investigation.
