Over 50 vehicles have been broken into since mid-August, according to the La Crosse Police Dept.

Between 2-8 a.m. on Sept. 11, 20 vehicles had smashed windows. Police said, in most cases, nothing appeared to be stolen, though gloveboxes and consoles were rummaged through.

The break ins occured on Johnson Street to King Street and 16th Street South to 23rd Street South.

La Crosse Police are hoping those with surveillance footage could step forward to help make an arrest.

La Crosse Police Sergeant Tom Walsh hopes neighbors will also look out for each other.

“We’re asking that people report any suspicious behavior in the early morning hours,” he said. “Things that don’t look right or out of place.”

Walsh also had simple advice.

“If at all possible, keep those valuables out of sight by taking them into your residences,” Walsh said. “If you can’t do that, keep them covered up so they aren’t in plain sight when they’re sitting in your vehicle.”
