Veterans battling climate change, 10 years ago

A group of Wisconsin vets from different wars came to La Crosse in the fall of 2009 to talk about “Operation Free.” They said excessive use of fossil fuel and the effects of climate change were a national security threat. One Army vet in the group said lots of money spent on Mideastern oil went into the hands of al-Qaida.

UW-La Crosse celebrated the grand finale of its centennial with a gala dinner that October at the Recreational Eagle Center. The program featured notable alumni of the La Crosse campus, honored some of the championship sports teams at the school, and presented an upbeat version of the UWL alma mater.

On the radio, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus had #1 hits 10 years ago, yesterday in La Crosse.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
