The La Crosse Police Department has its man.

The La Crosse Police and Fire Commission announced this afternoon they have chosen Shawn Kudron to be the city’s next police chief.

Kudron was one of three finalists, all internal candidates vying for the position.

Commission member Doug Happel said his panel was impressed with all three, but noted Kudron’s broad experience and leadership skills.

Mayor Tim Kabat called Kudron an incredible leader.

Kudron was hired by La Crosse Police in 2000, and served in several roles, eventually being promoted to captain in 2011.

The Police and Fire Commission will confirm the appointment of Kudron as the city’s next chief at its Sept. 30 meeting.
