Council committee approves demolition of north-side house
Plans to replace a 130-year-old house with green space in north La Crosse are moving ahead at City Hall.
Monday, the city plan commission delayed a request to raze a house on Liberty Street, next to Immanuel Lutheran School.
Tuesday night, Gary Harter of the Immanuel school board explained to a city council committee how the lot would be beneficial for playground use.
“All around the play structure that they have now, it’s all blacktop around there,” said Harter. “By moving it over there, it’ll be on the grass, and it’ll be a lot safer for the kids.”
City planner Jason Gilman recommended a delay Monday because he wanted more information.
Tuesday night, however, Gilman said he approved the plan for the property, and the administration committee supported it, as well.
