PFAS detected in Monroe County waters
The Wisconsin DNR has identified hazardous chemicals known as PFAS in two Monroe County creeks.
The substances, commonly used in firefighting foam at airports, were found at elevated levels in Silver Creek and in Suukjak Sep Creek, which used to be known as Squaw Creek.
The creeks are close to Fort McCoy, where water contamination by PFAS has been suspected.
The DNR also found similar contamination in spots along the Mississippi between Minneapolis and La Crosse, and on the upper part of the Wisconsin River.
