The river could begin a slow descent in La Crosse today.

Weather service forecasters say the Mississippi rose to 11.82 feet early Friday morning, and has stayed at that level for a few hours.

The water could be back down around 11 feet by next Friday.

Towns downriver, such as McGregor, could see the river crest on Saturday at up to a foot above local flood stage.

La Crosse has received 2.7 inches of rain so far in October, which is about 2 inches above normal.

The majority of that rain fell on October 1st.

The wettest local October in recent years was in 2017, when the city got 6 inches of precipitation.
