New taxi rules proposed in La Crosse
Nobody wants to ride in a dirty taxi, or in one where the seats are worn out and there’s a dented fender.
The La Crosse city council is being asked to pass new rules for keeping cabs clean.
“This ordinance was really intended to identify a maximum charge, for a wheelchair trip at $10 per trip, and that is something that we talked about with people in the know as well as looking at other communities,” says Mayor Tim Kabat.
The mayor spoke about the proposed taxi rules at a city committee meeting this week.
The ordinance would limit cab drivers to charging an additional $10 fee to passengers who travel with a service animal or a wheelchair.
The ordinance also contains language requiring cab owners to maintain clean conditions inside the vehicle, and also to make sure the outside does not show rust or dents.
