Shooting just south Sparta, involving police

Published

on

A police-involved shooting south of Sparta led to a shutdown of Highway 27 for several hours, and has caused the temporary closing of a popular tavern.

It’s reported that one person was shot by police Tuesday night near the Cotter Pin bar and restaurant in Leon.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday and will be under investigation by an agency outside Monroe County.

Highway 27 through Leon was closed until about 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The Facebook page for the Cotter Pin says the bar is closed temporarily, and adds that the incident did not originate at the business.
