The officers’ names and man killed in police-shooting just south of Sparta have been released.

Police shot and killed 32-year-old Michael Lee Nguyen outside the The Cotter Pin restaurant in Leon, Wis., on Nov. 5, after responding to a domestic violence-related 911 call.

People were barricaded inside the Cotter Pin, as police tried to negotiate with Nguyen, who was outside the business with a gun.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies and a Sparta Police Officer ended up shooting Nguyen, then immediately provided medical aid. He later died at a local hospital.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident but three Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies and one Sparta Police officer are on administrative leave, as are those department’s policies.

Those officers are Monroe County Sheriff’s Ryan Oswald, Jason Rice and Ethan Young, as well as Sparta Police’s Kyle Gurolski.

Oswald has been in law enforcement eight years, Oswald and Young for seven and Gurolski for 13.

The Department of Criminal Investigation is looking into the shooting, assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Monroe County Joint Investigative Task Force, DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services and the Wisconsin State Crime Lab.

DCI will turn over its reports to the Monroe County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.
