“Miracle” volunteer work completes holiday decorations downtown
A “Miracle on Main Street.”
That’s how a spokesman for La Crosse’s City Vision group describes the volunteer work this week to complete downtown Christmas decorations for this year.
Jay Lokken of City Vision says Johnson Tree Service and Kirchner Custom Building came to the rescue, after the first volunteer attempt to hang wreaths and snowflakes on lampposts was cut short in early November.
Lokken says the companies could “pop ’em right up” on poles, because they had the right equipment.
City employees normally put up those decorations, but this year, that duty was handed over to volunteers, when city leaders decided to assign workers to a month-long leaf collection campaign that still has a week to go.
