“There is a bomb in your building. Every officer will die. You’re all dead,” La Crosse man told police on 911 call
A 25-year-old La Crosse man faces charges after he called in a bomb threat late Sunday night.
La Crosse County dispatch received a call shortly after 8:30 p.m., and a man on the other end of the line said, “There is a bomb in your building. Every officer will die. You’re all dead.”
Police traced the phone to an apartment in the 1400 block of Caledonia Street.
They arrested Jared Cooper after applying for a search warrant.
His girlfriend and him were baking cookies when police busted in the door.
She described Cooper’s behavior as normal.
After repeatedly denying the call in police custody, Cooper admitted he was messed up on alcohol and marijuana and that he had made the call.
City hall, the La Crosse Police Department and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Police Department were searched but no explosive materials were located.
Cooper has been charged with one felony count of making a bomb scare, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 3-and-a-half years.
He was given a signature bond in court on Monday, and is scheduled for another hearing in December.
