No classes will be held in the Sparta School District on Tuesday, because of concerns that a student might have a missing handgun.

Around 2:45 p.m. Monday, a secure perimeter and classroom hold were ordered at Sparta High School on Monday afternoon, after administrators were told that a student might be armed.

The student was not in school on Monday, and police do not know where the person is.

Monday evening activities in the district were cancelled, and all the Sparta public schools will be closed to students and staff Tuesday.

The school also related info to surrounding school districts, as well.

This is the second consecutive year that a lockdown has occurred in the Sparta schools on the first day of class after Thanksgiving, because of safety concerns.

In the situation last year, a threat was reported on social media, but no weapon was found.
