Plans for the biggest Kwik Trip store in La Crosse are moving ahead at City Hall.

Monday, the city plan commission gave the OK to a change in zoning from residential to commercial for the site of the former Redwood Motel on Mormon Coulee Road.

A 9,000-square-foot gas station and car wash will be built on the lot, bordered by Mormon Coulee and Ward Avenue.

The old motel is now being used for apartments.

Under current plans, the Kwik Trip property would not include the actual corner of Ward and Mormon Coulee, which contains an old drive-through business.

A Kwik Trip spokesman told the commission that his company hasn’t been able to meet the seller’s price, yet, for that corner.

The city council judiciary committee will review the Kwik Trip plan Tuesday night.
