33rd St. lot proposed for new La Crosse fire station

Talk of building a fifth fire station in La Crosse is becoming more serious. 

City leaders are hoping to build a station along Mormon Coulee Road, south of Walmart, in the next couple of years. 

That new building might also be combined with the Shelby Fire Department. 

La Crosse Fire Chief Ken Gilliam likes the proposed site on South 33rd Street.    

Gilliam said a south-side fire station could cost nearly $6 million to build. 

Meanwhile, two lots near Pammel Creek, which had been considered for a station, may become surplus property. 

Gilliam said those lots wouldn’t work now, because the city has developed in other directions.
