La Crosse changes process for animal licensing

There will be a new way for city of La Crosse residents to license their pets.

Instead of mailing a check to the La Crosse treasurer’s office, it will now go through a private company.

La Crosse has partnered with www.PetData.com, which will keep the license status electronically up to date.

Treasury supervisor Dave Harm said it’s tough to say how many people are skirting those requirements.

“We certainly do a lot of licensing throughout the year, and it’s our understanding that all pets in the city have to be licensed,” Harm said. “Animal control does cite people for not doing so.”

There are several reasons a license could help.

“If the pet is licensed, it’ll be easier to find,” Harm said. “Also, to keep the population under control, and making sure that everyone is getting rabies vaccinations.”

Harms says one benefit is that you can license your pet online which La Crosse previously didn’t offer.

You can also mail a check and a copy of your pet’s rabies certificate to La Crosse animal licensing, C/O PetData, PO Box 141929, Irving, TX, 75014.
