Boy dies in Fillmore County car vs. buggy accident

A 12-year-old boy died following a car versus buggy accident in Fillmore County.

The crash happened around 7:00 Friday night on State Highway 44 near Newburg. A gofundme page said the Mast Family was on its way to a children’s Christmas program. A car hit the family’s horse and buggy. Their father, Menno, had a concussion and fractured his back and hip. His son, Joseph, was airlifted to Madison and died from his injuries.

Nearly 45 minutes later, a pickup truck hit a horse on the same highway. The driver had noncritical injuries. All of the people involved in the two accidents were from Mabel.
