A suspect wanted by the La Crosse Police Department since a shooting incident in March of 2019 as well as a fatal shooting in November was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Peoria, Ill.

Shavonte Thompson

Shavonte T. Thompson, 27, was taken into custody Friday. The Marshal Service and Illinois Police Department were conducting surveillance on a residence because of information that indicated Thompson was there. According to the Marshal Service, Thompson tried to flee out the window as they attempted to make contact.

Thompson is currently being held in the Peoria County Jail.

In November, charges were filed against Thompson for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Javier Hall Nov. 2.

Hall was found shot in an alley area near Copeland Avenue late at night, and he died a short time later at a hospital. An arrest warrant called for Thompson to be jailed on a $1 million bond once he was captured.

Thompson has two previous felony charges on his record in Wisconsin. He pleaded guilty to an attempted armed robbery in 2009 and to another robbery charge the following year.

Police also investigated Thompson in 2015 to see if he was connected to a series of La Crosse shootings which ended with the murder of a Central High School student.
