Warrant from Wisconsin needed to bring Thompson back for La Crosse murder trial

Peoria, Ill. — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers will have to issue a warrant to bring a murder suspect back to La Crosse from Illinois. 

Shavonte Thompson of La Crosse made his first appearance in Peoria County Court on Monday, after being arrested as a fugitive last week in Peoria. 

Thompson is accused of killing 18-year-old Javier Hall, near Copeland Park in La Crosse, Nov. 2. 

He’s being held in the Peoria jail without bond. 

Thompson will return to court there on Jan. 23, if he hasn’t been transported back to La Crosse by then.  

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
