Finally, 2020 presidential contest officially gets underway

It seems like it has been going on forever. It has been 2 years since the 2020 presidential contest began with the declaration of the first candidate. Since then, more than $1 billion has been spent by the candidates trying to influence your vote, and a number of candidates have dropped out. But only now has the 2020 presidential contest officially gotten underway with the first in the nation vote at the Iowa caucuses. And were are still nine months away from determining who our next President will be. Is it any wonder people are sick of politics? The boasting, the nastiness the insults and the outright lies are enough to turn off even the most masochistic. No wonder we are turned off by it all. Why does it have to be this way? It doesn’t. It isn’t in other countries. In Japan, for example, they will hold an election for its House of Councillors  in July, and so far not one person has seen a campaign ad or heard a campaign speech. In that country, political elections, by law, are just 17 days in length. Many other countries also have limits on the length of political campaigns. Meanwhile, in the U.S. it seems as soon as one election is held, the next campaign begins. We may still be far from the finish line, but at least the race has finally gotten started.
