Winona group capitalizing on Super Bowl commercial

Winona, Minnesota is in the spotlight after actress Winona Ryder made a return appearance to the town and filmed a Super Bowl commercial for the company Squarespace.

The group Visit Winona has created its own website through Squarespace called welcometotherestofwinona.com.

Pat Mutter, Executive Director says the newfound interest in the town made it a good time.

“We know our town and all of the aspects and certainly the best aspects of it,” Mutter said. “We just wanted to leverage the timing of it all to get people to know there’s more to Winona than what was shown in 30 seconds.”

Meanwhile, Squarespace isn’t forgetting the town which let them take over for a couple of days in January.

“Starting on Monday, February 10th Winonans can visit Blooming Grounds Coffee House to receive a code and instructions on how to get a website up and running,” Mutter said.

Mutter says, unfortunately, the sign behind Ryder as she’s lying on the side of the road saying “Welcome to Winona” was fake, made only for the commercial, though she’s trying to get it back.

The filming for that scene was done on County Highway 21.
