La Crosse stabbing suspect can argue that his wife committed murder
A La Crosse County murder suspect will be allowed to claim at a trial that his wife actually committed the crime.
A circuit judge has accepted a motion from the attorney for Anquin St. Junious, accused of the January 2019 stabbing death of Virgil Stewart.
The defendant’s wife, Annette Thompson, has said in previous court hearings that she stabbed Stewart in self-defense after he reportedly swung a liquor bottle at her face.
Police say the murder took place inside a taxi parked on South 7th Street, and St. Junious and Thompson are considered the only possible suspects in the stabbing.
A trial date last fall was cancelled when St. Junious fired his first attorney, and no new date has been scheduled.
St. Junious is now being held at the state prison in Portage, serving a sentence from a previous stabbing.
