May 9th marks 25th Freedom Honor Flight from La Crosse to DC
A program in La Crosse to honor veterans with flights to Washington, D.C. is now up to its 25th trip.
That landmark will be reached on May 9th, with the next Freedom Honor Flight between La Crosse and Washington.
Announcing the flight schedule Thursday, Honor Flight committee president Dave Larsen said mostly Vietnam veterans will make the next flight, along with some veterans of the Korean War.
The trips which began in 2008 originally were for World War II veterans, but Larsen says there are no vets from that war remaining on their waiting list.
The 24 previous day-trips between La Crosse and DC carried 1134 WWII veterans, 829 Korean vets, and 228 who served in the Vietnam War.
Veterans chosen for the May flight will be notified in March.
The second Freedom Honor Flight for 2020 will be on September 12th.
