La Crosse County gives pre-flood season advice
The river stage in La Crosse is about 5 feet below flood stage, but the flood season could be upon us soon.
Last year, the Mississippi rose to 10 feet in La Crosse on March 16th, and stayed above that level for 90 straight days.
Paula Silha with the La Crosse County health department says people are concerned about how high the water will get.
Silha says families preparing for flooding should make sure they have plenty of fresh bottled water on hand, and check to see that their packaged food has not been spoiled.
The county also urges flood victims to check the quality of water in private wells, and to pump out basements gradually.
