La Crosse dentist found guilty on federal tax evasion charges
A dentist from La Crosse, with a long history of avoiding taxes, has been convicted of tax evasion by a federal jury in Madison.
The jury took about two hours Tuesday to reach a verdict.
Dr. Frederick Kriemelmeyer was found guilty on four counts. He will be sentenced in May.
The 70-year-old was charged after ignoring a federal order dating back to 2007 to pay $135,000 in back taxes.
He was accused of using several tactics to avoid income taxes, including using cash transactions with patients and businesses so there would be no paper or electronic record.
The IRS says Kriemelmeyer owes the government more than $400,000 in unpaid taxes and penalties.
He’s been arrested several times over more than 20 years, arguing that it’s not legal to tax a person’s regular wages.
