New plans for the site of the former Trane Company Plant 6 are moving ahead.

The La Crosse city plan commission has endorsed development of a new community center for the empty lot on St. Andrew Street, along George Street.

The proposed Star Center would provide opportunities for people with disabilities and offer more access to physical activity.

Tentative plans were announced in 2013 for housing and retail space on the factory site.

Developers believe the Star Center could attract visitors from throughout the Upper Midwest.

The proposal goes before the city’s judiciary committee Tuesday night.
