Attempts to deport hundreds of Hmong and Lao residents from Wisconsin have led to a potential protest by La Crosse County.

At its next meeting, the county board will be asked to pass a resolution objecting to the deportation of minority residents to Laos.

The county is home to several thousand Hmong residents, estimated at about 4000 in 2015.

La Crosse County leaders say about 300 Hmong and Lao residents in the state have been told that they will be deported to Asia.

Most of those residents getting papers have been in the U.S. for 10 years or more.
