Alternate-side parking tickets up 5,000 in La Crosse this winter, though 2/3 weren’t fined

La Crosse alternate-side parking this winter resulted in more than 18,000 tickets. 

That’s 5,000 tickets above the number issued during the winter a year ago. 

La Crosse police said about two-thirds of the overnight parking tickets were first offense, so no fine was charged. 

A ticket for second violations start at $15. 

The four-month special parking rules ended Sunday.  

The La Crosse Police Parking Utility issued a total of 18,363 citations during the 2019-20 season. Of those, 12,055 were first offense — a $0.00 ticket. There were 6,308 second offense tickets issued.

By comparison, 13,314 parking citations were issued during the 2018-19 season.
