La Crosse alternate-side parking this winter resulted in more than 18,000 tickets.

That’s 5,000 tickets above the number issued during the winter a year ago.

La Crosse police said about two-thirds of the overnight parking tickets were first offense, so no fine was charged.

A ticket for second violations start at $15.

The four-month special parking rules ended Sunday.

The La Crosse Police Parking Utility issued a total of 18,363 citations during the 2019-20 season. Of those, 12,055 were first offense — a $0.00 ticket. There were 6,308 second offense tickets issued.

By comparison, 13,314 parking citations were issued during the 2018-19 season.
