The demon barber “Sweeney Todd” has been defeated by a demon virus, at least at La Crosse’s Weber Center.

The La Crosse Community Theatre spring production of the Stephen Sondheim musical “Sweeney Todd” has been cancelled early in the rehearsal period, because of the coronavirus and Wisconsin state rules banning large gatherings.

The youth production of “Frozen Junior” is being postponed until July and August, and future Weber Center shows, including an in-person program by “Candid Camera” host Peter Funt, are called off for now.

LCT artistic director Grant Golson says spring theatre classes are cancelled.

The theatre’s annual gala is still scheduled for April 18th, but it will be a social media event on Facebook.

That night, the new LCT season will be announced.
