La Crosse Warming Center, Salvation Army make changes

La Crosse’s downtown warming center is moving away from downtown for the rest of the cold-weather season.

Starting Monday, the warming center run by Catholic Charities will operate at Cathedral School at 1319 Ferry Street, east of West Avenue, while school is out.

Meanwhile, the usual Warming Center location on 3rd Street will serve as an Isolation Center for homeless people who need shelter, and are not already served by the Salvation Army.

People who are assessed at the center and do not show symptoms of COVID-19 will be taken to a new shelter location.

As of now, the Salvation Army is the primary point of contact for homeless residents of La Crosse looking for a shelter.

All of the shelter sites are now open 24 hours a day.
